Keep your kitty busy

Food puzzles and treat balls are a fabulous way to stimulate your cat and increase her activity. There’s a variety of food puzzles available for sale. Most are shaped like balls or eggs with a cylinder inside to contain the treats, but you can also make your own at home. The cardboard tube of a toilet roll can easily be transformed by cutting diamond-shaped holes in it.

Fold one end down and put in some of your cat’s favourite dry biscuits or kitty treats, then fold in the other end to contain the food. Make sure the holes are big enough for the treats to get through but don’t put in too many — you want your cat to spend some time playing, pushing it around with a paw to release the treats. At Cat Protection, we have seen great results with food puzzles and believe these simple treat toys are an excellent way to entertain your cat and keep her happy.

We couldn’t agree more with the team at the Cat Protection Society — food puzzles and treat balls are a great way to keep our pets occupied! One of our favourite cat treat balls is made by KONG. This toy combines unpredictable movement with the treat-dispensing function, giving your cat lots of physical and mental exercise as she works to get those treats free.
