Dog walks in wintery nights a worry

Walking the dog at night is something lots of people have to do, fitting it in around work and study hours, and winter is a key time for that activity. After all, the days are shorter; sometimes fitting in a walk as well as everything else you have to do simply isn’t possible during those few hours of sunshine!

Walking your dog in the dark can be dangerous as it’s very hard to see. Even if your precious pup is on a lead, if it darts onto the road when a car drives past the driver may not see it-and the results could be fatal.

Some great tips to keep your pet safe in the evenings include:

  • Reflective material on your dog’s lead, harness and/or collar. The more visible they are, the better.
  • Keep a short leash while you’re walking at night. This way, your dog won’t have much room to move.
  • Walk with your dog on the right-hand side (the furthest side away from oncoming traffic)
