Are you thinking of bringing home a new rescue cat? Congratulations, first of all, on saving an animal’s life!

We know you’re just going to love your new feline friend! Here are some things you should make sure you have on hand before you invite the cute new addition to your family through the doors of your home:

  • Bedding
Ensure you have suitable bedding, with a few extra blankets as we head into winter.
  • Grooming tools
Grooming your kitten from a young age will help it get used to the activity, making it easier once the feline is older. Depending on the length of your cat’s hair, you may need a variety of brush sizes — talk to the rescue organisation you got your pet from for more information.
  • Cat food
This is an obvious necessity. When choosing cat food, PETS recommends always picking the best you can afford with a veterinarian behind it. To avoid any stomach upsets, try feeding your cat what it was being fed in its prior environment before gradually introducing a change in diet to your chosen brand.
  • Toys
Cats and kittens need mental stimulation. Keep their brains working with a selection of cat toys. PETS likes the Twisted Boa toys from KONG. Not only are they made using quality materials, just like all KONG products, but they also promote exercise and fulfil your cat’s desire to chase and hunt, as well as allowing you to interact with them in a fun and playful manner. What a great bonding activity for you and your new pet! For more information, visit kongcompany.com.
  • Litter
You’ll need a litter tray and some litter to ensure your cat toilets the right way early on; after all, this can be a messy and irritating problem to try to tone down later in life! PETS recommends a natural litter such as Max’s Cat Litter. This product is all natural and 100 per cent biodegradable, making it not only good for your cat, but good for the environment too! For more information, visit coprice.com.au.
