With stunning looks and a temperament to match, the Burmilla is quickly becoming a family pet of choice. By Carrol Baker.
The Burmilla is fast gaining a reputation as a wonderful family pet, with its easy-going, affable nature and striking good looks. When you first meet a Burmilla, you’ll want to pick it up and give it a big cuddle. When you do, chances are you’ll fall in love with the breed there and then — and being the super-friendly feline that it is, it will love you right back. Breeder Carissa Dyett from Bahati Cattery says the Burmilla truly is a one-of-a-kind feline. “They are very loving and affectionate and they are fantastic for families. I think they’re one of the best breeds around,” she says.
The Burmilla has big green eyes that are usually twinkling with fun, and a medium-sized body that is quite solid and strong. Its coat can be either short or semi-long and it has a soft silky feel to it. It comes in a vast array of silver-tipped and shaded colours, including lilac, black, brown, chocolate and blue, and the coat has a shimmering silver overlay. It also has a distinctive line around its eyes that looks like eyeliner, and its nose and paw pads can also vary in colour.
