The annual PETstock survey revealed Australian pet owners are willing to spend as much as it takes when it comes to their pets.
A total of 905 pet owners across the country were asked a series of questions related to their pets.
The survey found 83 per cent of Australian respondents treat their pets like their children and spend an average of $102 a month on food alone.
When all expenses – including holiday care, treats, insurance, vet bills and accessories – were added together, the average cost of owning a pet was $239 a month or $2,868 a year.
Almost 96 per cent of Australians also said they would take the day off work to look after their fur-baby.
PETstock’s survey proves that pets are part of the family and participate in normal, everyday family activities, which includes watching TV.
